George Orwell was right… just 30 years early

1984. Big Brother. Thought Police. Rewriting History. And it just happens to be the year I got married, but that’s another story.

It’s 30 years later and I can’t help but see an Orwellian society being built before our eyes. Don’t believe me? Let’s go through the facts.

1: Big Brother – Unless you live under a log, you’ve heard of the NSA gathering data on everyone. I am uniquely qualified to give you an indication of what information is retained on everyone that is in the public domain, and that doesn’t even touch the information that the government has that we can’t access! I own a background screening company that is used for employment and pre-employment screening of applicants, and the amount of information that is available is amazing. Addresses, Phone Numbers, Criminal Information, Traffic Information, Associates’ Names and Information, Family Information, Social Media Profiles, Education Information, and even Financial Information and Salary Information is all available. So add to that the email and phone call information that the government monitors and you’d have to be EXTREMELY naïve to think that Big Brother isn’t watching you.

2: Thought Police – If someone says that homosexuality is against their beliefs, they are branded as “homophobic” and they MUST hate homosexuals. If someone says they are against the explosion of “entitlements”, then they MUST hate poor people. Liberals and Progressives would love to make it illegal to even THINK anything that does not agree with their world view. Now they would want to take away my constitutional right to carry a firearm. Do some searching and verify it yourself if you don’t believe me… but there is a large group of people that want to make the assumption that if you are legally carrying a firearm that surely you are doing it because you “intend” on using it, and that “intention” proves that you are guilty of some crime. Luckily I still live in a state where “intent” has to be proven… it is not assumed. Finally… and the most disturbing to me… if I disagree with the president (which I do on almost everything he says) then I MUST be a racist. It can’t be because I believe that he’s disconnected from reality and either an incompetent fool, or a flat out liar. It’s got to be because he’s black and I’m white so I disagree with him based on color. Last time I checked neither “Incompetent Fool” or “Liar” are races.

3: Rewriting History – I’m not sure if this one will be counted as “rewriting” history, or if it is just a symptom of a society that has no comprehension of their own history and don’t care to learn. Here is some homework for you… grab a history book and look up some information on the Civil War and see which side of the slavery issue the Democrats were supporting and which side the Republicans were supporting. A lot of people have no clue. But let’s get a little closer to the current time period. I am SO sick and tired of hearing people talk about “Bush’s War” and “Bush lied about WMDs” when both Bill Clinton AND Hilary Clinton SUPPORTED the idea that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. They based their support on the information (or lack of information) being returned by the intelligence community the same as President Bush did. You can’t have it both ways. If President Bush lied, then Bill and Hilary ALSO lied when they supported the invasion. If, as I believe, they all made the decision based on faulty intelligence, then none of them lied. All I would ask is that you quit rewriting history!

Closing Thoughts – I wrote this quickly and fairly late at night, so forgive me if some of this is rambling, but I want to throw a few more disturbing things in here…

Bipartisanship: Our founding fathers NEVER intended for our government to be run by 100% consensus. That is why they created a multi-party system. Just because a bill has bipartisan support doesn’t make it right… there are idiots on both sides of the line.

The Hobby Lobby Ruling: Hey Liberals, step down off your high horse and take a sip of reality. The SCOTUS didn’t rule “against birth control.” They didn’t even say that women couldn’t use the FOUR out of TWENTY methods of birth control available. All they said was the government couldn’t force their employer to PAY for those four methods if it was against their religious beliefs. They can still go out and do what they’ve done for the past 20 years and PAY FOR IT THEMSELVES. I had to change my cholesterol medicine the last time I refilled it because the insurance company wouldn’t pay for it based on Obamacare’s list of medicines I can take. I could still get my old medicine, but I’d have to pay for it myself, so forgive me if I don’t weep over the fact that some women might have to do something PERIODICALLY that I have to do every month!

Border Control: I can solve the border problem right now… first ENFORCE THE LAWS WE ALREADY HAVE! Second… for all you liberals out there that say we HAVE to take care of the children that have been SENT across the border (and you notice I said “SENT” because you KNOW they didn’t decide this on their own and come here by themselves)… well it’s simple… every liberal head of household in the US that thinks we have to take care of these children, get off your butts and adopt one of them. That way YOU can support them. But don’t take money from those of us that are struggling to support our OWN families to give to people who shouldn’t be here in the first place. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not cold hearted. I’ll give to Wounded Warrior Project and other charities that I feel strongly about. But when you liberals say “they must be cared for” what you really mean is “let’s take money from EVERYONE to give to them.” If you feel so strongly about it, use your OWN money and quit spending MINE on it.

IRS: I think the IRS is a great institution and I feel they do an awesome job.

NSA: Could you pass that last sentence on to the IRS for me please?

Radical Islam: When are people going to wake up and recognize that these people HATE US? Leaving them alone in the hope that they’ll be happy and leave US alone is like trying to be nice to a rabid dog so you can keep it as a pet. Oh crap… now people will call me Islamophobic. On a connecting thought with the birth control decision I heard a feminist today compare the supreme court decision on the Hobby Lobby issue with Sharia Law. People have lost their minds!

Final Call To Action: I usually just post these when I get a chance and let people who know me read them. I’m sorry it’s been so long since my last post. I’ll try to be more active here. But for the first time, I’d like to spread this one around. I know that some of you will agree with some of what I’ve said. I also know that some will disagree with everything I’ve said. As a push BACK against the thought police, I’d like everyone who agreed with anything in here to share this and spread it. Let them know that we will NOT be suppressed and that having a different opinion is NOT illegal, and if you DO disagree with me… well, I dare you to share this just to show that you aren’t afraid of ideas that disagree with yours 🙂

I Blame Leaded Gasoline!

There is a marked lack of basic logic shown by the leaders of our country.

I thought I should make that bold, because I truly believe that it is at the root of the majority of our problems in this country. You may be thinking “what does that have to do with leaded gasoline?”… We’ll get to that in a bit. Let’s define the problem first.

Problem: Extremist Muslims believe everyone that do not believe the way they do are infidels and they are given a holy commandment to kill them or convert them.

Faulty Logic: Let’s ignore the REAL reason they attack us because if we appease them and show them that we like them, they’ll quit attacking us. So let’s not offend them and they’ll be happy and leave us alone.

Reality: It doesn’t matter how nice we are to them, we can no easier get Extremist Muslims on our side by being nice to them than we can get the Westboro Baptist Church to quit protesting military funerals by being nice to them. These people feel that they are doing God’s will and are not going to change just because you try not to offend them. Our leaders don’t seem to understand that us existing and not believing the same as they believe offends them!

Problem: There is a growing problem with bullying, drug and alcohol use, and other criminal activity among the youth of our country.

Faulty Logic: Kids need to be respected and treated as friends and equals by their parents and teachers. Besides anything other than positive reinforcement is abuse.

Reality: Kids are stupid. I know… I used to be one! And I was stupid! Now please understand me… I’m not advocating that you beat your children with bats, but a correctly administered spanking can do wonders in the raising of a child. A lot of people today do not seem to be aware of the pain/reward balance that contributes to good behavior. Every child subconsciously weighs that pain/reward balance before every action. “Is the pain from the punishment I will receive if I get caught greater than the enjoyment I will get out of doing this?” I can tell you that a lot of time I didn’t compute that ratio correctly… and it hurt when I got caught. That refined my behavior. Life says some actions will cause pain… it is ridiculous to pretend that isn’t true and very effective. (By the way… if the Extremists from the problem above were shown a more appropriate pain to reward ratio they might quit some of THEIR actions also.)

Problem: Our economy is really bad!

Faulty Logic: Lets take money from the rich people and give it to the poor people. That will help the economy improve.

Reality: Well… pretty much what I said up there about the pain/reward ratio, but in reverse. When people learn that they can live an acceptable lifestyle without working, they have no incentive to work. You know what really scares me? The unemployment rate is going down a bit as a percentage of the population but you hear the reporters say “there are twice that number if you count those people who have quit looking for work.” Wake up! This means that for every person that is getting unemployment insurance and looking for work, there is someone who has quit looking for work and is being supported by the welfare system. Taking money from the rich and giving it to the poor to help the economy is like trying to fill up your swimming pool by taking buckets of water out of the deep end and pouring it into the shallow end. The government does not create new money… it just spends money that it has taken from it’s citizens.

Ok… there are three examples of a failure to comprehend basic logic. Now don’t get me wrong… I’m not saying that welfare is a bad thing… I am saying that a welfare system that can be abused as easily as our welfare system can be IS a bad thing. Sometimes people need help… but helping someone is totally different than supporting them. And I know that all Muslims aren’t extremists… that’s why I threw the Westboro kooks in the same concept. I’m a Baptist, by the way, and it embarrasses me that those people call themselves Baptists.

Now… what does all of this have to do with leaded gasoline? In 1921 tetraethyl lead (TEL) was patented by General Motors and they began using it in gasoline as an anti-knock agent. In 1924 several workers died and went crazy while working at the TEL production facility. After years of controversy and testing it was found in the 1970s that higher levels of lead in the blood correlated with poor school performance. After the Clean Air Act Extension of 1970 (and subsequent appeals) leaded gasoline began to be phased out in 1979 and was finally completely phased out for passenger car use by 1986. A 1994 study showed that the concentration of lead in the blood level of U.S. population had dropped 78% from 1976 to 1991. The program I watched made the statement that the average intelligence of children today, as measured by IQ tests, is 10 to 20 points higher than the children raised during the 60s and 70s.

Now I might not be the smartest person around, but I can figure some things out. Most of these politicians grew up in the larger cities sniffing leaded gasoline fumes! No wonder they have a problem with logic…. they’ve all got lead poisoning!
